"Each movement acts as its own entity, though all three hold certain ideas in common; the flutes often echo and slide past each other, mimicking then altering the previous melody. The first largo is a throwback to Renaissance music and merging into dissonance, then resolving. The second movement begins the offsets and melodic shifts between the two instruments, accelerating in tempo to the end. The third movement is a quasi-waltz." (Paul Arma)
