Born on 23 January 1934 in Zrenjanin (Nagybecskerek, Serbia), Tibor Hartig inherited his love of music from his father, who played the organ in the nearby church, where he often accompanied him as a child. He graduated from the Belgrade Music Academy's Cello Department. His professors included Vikort Jaković, René Forest, Marko Stokanović and Josif Tajti. He became solo cellist of the Novi Sad Opera after graduating from the school. He has been a regular guest in various chamber ensembles in Novi Sad. He started composing in 1966, but even then he was already involved in painting, drawing and portrait caricature. His works were often published in the pages of Magyar Szó and Dnevnik.
