Barna Szabó was born in 1976 in Tiszakeresztúr, Hungary. He studied composing from 1996 at Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music until 2001. In 2010 he was awarded DLA (composition DLA studies: 2002-2006) at Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.
He was a répétiteur of Budapest Kőbánya Music School between 1999 and 2016. From 2005 he is a teacher at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music (Music Theory Department). He was a lecturer at the University of Theatre and Film Arts 2 years long from 2015. He has been a teacher of Kodály Institute (Kecskemét) from 2017. He teaches transposing and score reading, solfege, music theory and analysis.
He is a member of New Liszt Ferenc Chamber Choir. He often composes vocal and choir works too.
He won the first prize of Transformusic 1st International Composers Competition in 2004. He received Kodály Zoltán music creative scholarship twice (2007 and 2008). In 2018 he won also the first prize of Arany János Composition Competition and in the same year he received KÓTA Award.
