Gergely Barta was born in 1978. He graduated from the Liszt Academy of Music in 2002 with a degree in conducting, in 2003 in sacred music and in 2006 in composition. He obtained his DLA in 2007 and has been a lecturer at the Liszt Academy of Music since the same year. Between 2009 and 2013 he was a teacher at the St. Norbert Premontrian Church Music College in Gödöllő. From 2002 to 2009 he was a member of the Schola Hungarica, from 2009 for 3 years of the Gödöllő Choir and from 2011 of the Morales Consort. Between 2005 and 2008 he was a researcher at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His research interests include the Central European repertoire of cantus planus multiplex and contemporary liturgical music.
He has performed all over the country, including at the Nádor Hall, the Palace of Arts, the Óbuda Society, the Márton Rátkai Club, and FUGA.
He was given the Erkel Prize in 2021.
