Barnabás Horváth was born in Budapest on 29 March, 1965. He studied composition with István Fekete Győr at the Béla Bartók Music Secondary School, as well as with József Soproni and Attila Bozay at the Liszt Academy of Music. He graduated in 1990.
Between 1990 and 1995 he was a member of the Young Composers’ Group. He was awarded three times the Kodály Scholarship.
His compositions have won a number of prizes at competitions:

Composer Competition of the 1st Choir Competition in Budapest, 1996. II. and III. prize

Several of his works were performed at contemporary music festivals in Hungary: Music of Our Age, Mini Festival, Szeged Contemporary Music Festival.

Barnabás Horváth is also active as a teacher. Between 1991 and 2006 he worked at the University of Szeged, Faculty of Music. He was also a lecturer at the Széchenyi István University in Győr. Since 2008 he has taught music theory at the University of West Hungary Savaria Campus, in Szombathely as an associate professor.
He obtained his DLA degree in 2011 at the Liszt Academy of Music Budapest with a dissertation on the Piano Préludes of Claude Debussy.
He is a member of the Hungarian Music Society, the Hungarian Association of Composers, the Society Artisjus, and the National Association of Hungarian Artists.
