Jolán Sánta was born in Kalocsa in 1954, and attended primary and secondary schools in Baja. She studied vocal studies and music theory at Liszt Ferenc College of Music, Debrecen, where she graduated in 1977. She graduated from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music Budapest as a singing artist and teacher in 1983. She received her degree as an opera singer in 1985.

In 1983 she was a scholarship-holder of the Hungarian State Opera House, and joined the company of the Opera two years later. She debuted in the role of Olga in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin in 1984. She was first prize at the Pavarotti Singing Competition in 1988.

She has appeared at numerous concerts in Hungary and abroad. Main roles: Mother, Hänsel (Humperdinck: Hänsel und Gretel), Örzse (Kodály: János Háry), Neighbour (Kodály: The Spinning Room), Marcillina (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro), Laura (Ponchielli: Gioconda), Suzuki (Puccini: Madama Butterfly), Mother-in-Law (Szokolay: Blood Wedding), Annina (Verdi: La traviata).
