István Baróti studied first with Sebestyén Pécsi, then Ferenc Gergely at the Academy of Music, Budapest where he gave his diploma concert on the new organ in 1967. He taught for thirty five years at the Pál Járdányi Music School in Budapest's 2nd district, launching generations of young orgonists on their way helping them prepare for entry to the organ faculty at the Academy. Besides regular concerts in Hungary, he has been a guest performer in numerous European countries and festivals. In 1980, he began taching at the Esztergom Theological College and in 1992, was appointed a teacher in the church music faculty of the Academy of Music, Budapest. He has been the organist and choir master of the Esztergom Basilica since 1975 where he also designed the new organ. Between 1985 and 1988 he participated in a wide ranging survey of all Hungary's organs and also became involved in organ design. He has been closely involved in all phases in the creation of the new organ at the Palace of Arts.
