He started to learn music at the age of seven in his native town of Pápa. Having completed his studies at the Musical Secondary School of Győr, he was admitted in 1969 to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music where he learned with István Csurgay and obtained his diploma in 1975. In 1974 he became member of the Symphony Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio. Between 1985-1991 he played also in the cello section of Concentus Hungaricus, a chamber orchestra formed by musicians of the Radio Orchestra. Since 1992, when it became a permanent orchestra, he has been playing in the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In 2000 with the Eckhardt String Quartet he participated in the BFO's first European performance of Marc Neikrug's "Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra". As a soloist and member of different formations, he is a frequent participant of the BFO's chamber music series and children's concerts.
