László Bánk was born in 1947. He was seven when he began to learn to play the violincello. Having completed his studies at the Béla Bartók Musical Secondary School, he was admitted in 1967 to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. Between 1972 and 1992 he played in the Orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House. Since 1992 he has been member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra.
