Miklós Mohay was born in Budapest in 1960. He studied composition and the cello at the Bartók Béla Specialized Secondary School of Music under Miklós Kocsár and Ottó Kertész. In 1984 he graduated in composition from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, having studied under Sándor Szokolay, Sándor Balassa and József Soproni.
His choral works have won several prizes at competitions in Hungary. Since 1985, he has been teaching solfeggio and music theory at the Primary School Teacher's Training College attached to the Eötvös Lóránd University in Budapest.
