The renowned basso started his musical studies with private tutors. Member of the Army Art Ensemble between 1952-57, from 1957 on he had been opera singer at the Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen. His performances were characterised with strong dramatic power and a thorough knowledge of human nature - he always aimed at elaborate characterisation and profound intuition of a given character. He was a holder of the Liszt Ferenc Prize and several other national prizes in Hungary.
His major roles included Sarastro in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Zaccharia in Verdi's Nabucco, Philip II in Verdi's Don Carlos and Gremin in Tchaikovsky's Onegin.
