Budapesti Lantos Kórus
Orchestra, choir, ensemble
The Budapest Lantos (formerly: Youth) Choir was founded in 1950 by Árpád Darázs and Rezső Lantos, Liszt Prize-winning conductors. After Árpád Darázs left for abroad, Rezső Lantos led the ensemble together with his wife, Edith Lantos, until his untimely death in 1977. Under his leadership, the choir participated with great success in festivals throughout Europe, returning home with numerous first prizes from almost every major international competition (Arezzo, The Hague, Llangollen, Debrecen, etc.).
The choir's repertoire includes masses, oratorios and a cappella works (sacred choral works, settings of poems, folk song arrangements), many of which were dedicated to the choir or its conductor (including eleven works by Lajos Bárdos). The choir has been successful in numerous festivals and competitions over its long history. They have toured the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Austria, France and other countries. They have recorded numerous CDs and released their own recordings.
