Budapest Music Center is celebrating
György Kurtág on the occasion of his 95th birthday with the
Kurtág 95 Online Festival between February 18–21, 2021. Kurtág is considered to be one of the greatest contemporary composers whose unmistakably concise masterpieces capture infinity with only a handful of notes. The festival's four concert nights will be available as free online streams on
BMC's website, and on the websites of the festival's partners,
Müpa Budapest and the
Liszt Academy of Music.

Kurtág 95 – Szőllősy 100 On the occasion of his birthday,
BMC Records is honoring the 95-year-old György Kurtág with a
new record release: on February 19, a new recording of one of the composer's most significant works
The Sayings of Péter Bornemisza, will be released. To accomodate with the work on the recording, Kurtág’s voice prepares the listener: in his performance, the Protestant preacher’s scattered lines of faith are especially strong.
The Sayings of Péter Bornemisza are not only about the power of expression - one can also recognize in it the genesis of a composer's thinking engaged with the singing voice. The piece - which is so rarely performed due to it's technical difficulties - is interpreted by American soprano
Tony Arnold and pianist
Gábor Csalog.
