Biography

Bass baritone László Jekl was born in Lad in 1957 and graduated from the Pécs Franz Liszt Music College. He was a member of the Hungarian Radio and Television Choir from 1980 to 2001 and toured numerous countries with them, taking part in opera productions and sometimes working as a soloist. He has sung many masterpieces of the oratorio literature, among them works by Bach, Handel, Haydn and Brahms. His repertoire is drawn from the romantic era with songs by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms and Mahler as well as operatic roles from Mozart, Bellini, Verdi and Wagner. He has made a number of CD recordings and in 2000, received the Zoltán Vásárhelyi award in recognition of his work. Recently, he has been involved in the premiering and performance of contemporary works.
