The distinguished bass, László Polgár was born in 1947. He finished his studies at the Music Academy in 1972 and that same year, became a member of the Hungarian State Opera.
He won a number of singing competitions ((Karlovy Vary, Zwickau Schumann competition, Budapesti Erkel competition, Vienna Wolf competition, Philadelphia Pavarotti competition). His international career was launched in 1979 as Ozmin in Hamburg and since then has sung all the great Mozart bass and bass baritone roles. One of his great interpretations is Bartók’s Blue Beard. He has performed this in Chicago, Athens, Coppenhagen, Tokyo, Paris, London, Lille, Dresden and Milano, with the role of Judit taken by Agnes Baltsa, Jessye Normal, Éva Marton and Júlia Váradi. He is a life member of the Opera House and a Melis and Liszt prize winner. He has also been given the Artist of Merit award and the Kossuth Prize. |
